Homework for 16th May

Purpose:
Designing a lesson plan for you partners' fairy tale

Procedure:

• Discuss in your local team how you could use the fairy tale in a grade 7 or 8, think about task demand and task support
• design a lesson plan using the pre- while- and post- reading structure for creating tasks
• you can meet face to face or have a chat session between the seminar sessions
• you will have approx. 30 minutes in the session on the 23th, so be well prepared beforehand!

Task for 16th May

Dear class, here are the tasks for the session on 16th May:

Task 1: Working in local teams (8.15-8.45)
Purpose:
Analysing partners' fairy tale, comparison of the two fairy tales.

Procedure:
Focus on the fairy tales of the other party and analyse them in the same way as in week two
Find similarities and differences (with regard to topics, culture, society etc.)
Find stereotypes that are depicted in the stories compared to role models in the local present society.
Write a comparison between the two fairy tales in MS Word and upload it to stud.ip

Task 2: Chat session (9.00-9.45)
Purpose:
Discussing the comparison of the fairy tales.

Product:
Chat session, uploaded to stud.ip

Procedure:
Discuss how the stereotypes and role models depicted in the fairy tales could influence the readers. How could you as a teacher deal with these stereotypes when working with fairy tales?

Task for session on 16th May

Write a reflection on the chat of the previous session. Comment in particular on the issue of your and your partners' (in Croatia) experience with fairy tales.

• How did fairy tales influence you? What can you remember from your childhood?
• What did your partners tell you about these issues?
• Compare your experiences - find similarities and differences
• What can you learn about the different (or same?) cultures from these experiences?

Task for session on 9th May

Dear class,
here are the tasks for the session on 9th May:

Task 1: Chat session (8.15-9.00)

Purpose:
Catching up on the things of last session. Sharing experience with fairy tales:

Product:
Uploaded chat session in stud.ip

Procedure:
You can first discuss things you couldn't finish last session (educational system).
Then discuss your experiences with fairy tales:
What can you remember about your childhood? How did fairy tales influence you? Which are your favourite fairy tales? First thoughts about the partners' fairy tales.

Task 2: Working in local teams (9.00-9.45)

Purpose:
Analysing your local fairy tale

Product:
Analysis of your fairy tale, uploaded to stud.ip

Procedure:
Get together in your local team.
Focus on local fairy tales and write an analysis in MS Word taking into account your previous knowledge about fairy tales:
- sterotypes (gender...)
- typical constituent parts of a fairy tale
- the moral
- possible reasons for creating such a tale
Upload the results of the analysis to your folder in stud.ip.

Dear class,
I have uploaded the article on NBLT by Warschauer & Kern to the literature folder in stud.ip. Will you please read the article and write a post in your blog commenting on the following aspects:

• the nature of NBLT and the difference to former varieties of CALL
• how NBLT can serve foreign language teaching which is focused on a communicative approach
• the use of NBLT for intercultural learning

Additionally, you should read the two fairy tales which you will find in stud.ip as well.
